Why Should I Have A Wedding Cake?

You’re engaged - congratulations! And you’re planning a wedding - why do you need a wedding cake? As a cake designer, I’m a little biased and think everybody should have a wedding cake!

One reason to have a wedding cake is for the symbolism it represents. The cake cutting ceremony, in which the couple cut the first slice of cake together, is a symbol of their commitment to sharing their lives together. The cake itself is also a symbol of the sweetness and richness of the marriage to come.

As I was scouring the internet for information for this blog, I found that wedding cakes really do get some bad press! “They’re dry” - “Nobody eats cake” - “They are uninteresting” - that’s just not true! Wedding cakes are not what they used to be. Your wedding cake can be anything you want it to be. Gone are the days of fruit cake (did anybody actually enjoy fruit cake?) or dry boring cake. Your wedding cake can have each tier a different flavour, and can truly be a work of art.

Your wedding cake can be a focal point of your reception, it is part of your décor. Especially if you choose to incorporate design elements from the rest of the wedding into the cake. As with anything for your wedding, get creative with your wedding cake ideas. This will make it totally worth having a wedding cake and your guests won’t forget it in a hurry!
